Gotta agree with you on that Ichtyoid. Only sickos can justify that kind of behaviour.

just curious: were the english/danish climbers in china on gov't issued climbing permits?
if so, hopefully they will reconsider their contributions to the chinese economy and plan future climbing expeditions from another less brutal country...

How do you ascertain whether they were in Nepal or China? If they were in China I bet they are now personna non grata in the Peoples Republic.

It was right on the border. The guards entered the camp so I assume it was the PRC side.

I think that a chinese climbing permit is not that easy to get. most climbers in that range have great respect for Nepalese culture and the plight of the Tibetans. I suspect this event will significantly alter future expeditions in the area. After seeing the film I can say that I will never be giving the PRC any of my money to climb in their country.

sard: I would ascertain it based on the fact that the climbers were issued a permit by the government of SOME country. I would assume that their base camp would therefore be IN that country. If the climbers shot film, they probably know where on the map they were shooting. Climbers in the Himalaya generally know how to read a map. Honestly, it's not like it's impossible to say where the victims were when they were murdered...

I was referring to our ability to determine their location. I'm sure they knew where they were. And since the PRC guards didn't mess with them apparently, they must have been in Nepal. Probably a good thing.
The PRC has issued climbing permits to some countries' climbers. But they usually have the expedition well staffed with government ticks.
I have issues of the American Alpine Club annuals and many other books on the area of interest. Galen Rowell was one of my favorite people even tho politically we were poles apart.
Now he knew how to piss off the PRC.
